Gay scene: The social climate for homosexuals is most agreeable in urban aglomeration of western part of country (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, etc.). The gay scene is well represented in this area. In 2001 Netherlands had the worl premiere of becoming the first country where the civil marriage was instituted for people of same sex.
